Palestinians in Gaza must exit through Rafah as just the first step to being reunited with their loved ones in Canada. They have been anxiously waiting, only to be bombed and killed.

If we continue on our current course, Canada may be legally complicit in arming an extremist government that is in the process of ethnic cleansing and what the ICJ found was a plausible case for genocide. The International Court of Justice recently ruled that the military of Israel must desist from any genocidal action in Gaza. Yet more and more Palestinians have been killed, including children.

Since last October, as reported by The Maple, your government has authorized $28.5 million of arms sales to Israel and its military. This must stop. You must stop giving permits that allow weapons manufacturers to sell arms to Israel. It has been clear that the Palestinians, including those waiting desperately at the Rafah, have nowhere to run and nowhere to hide as they continue to face death from nonstop, indiscriminate violence. We cannot afford as a country to have them be killed by those using military equipment made by Canadian companies. That is unconscionable. I know you see what is happening. You see the killing of thousands and thousands of Palestinian children. Minister Joly has already noted that she is concerned about what’s happened in Rafah and has accurately labelled the potential consequences of the attack. It is time to take action. I ask that: 1. This government should publicly and loudly condemn the latest attacks in Rafah and ; 2. This government revokes all permits that allow any company in Canada to sell more arms to the extremist Netanyahu government.
