Dear Minister Dunlop: Currently, Canada is dealing with a massive upsurge of hate, both Islamophobic and anti-Semitic, in relation to the terrible events unfolding in the Middle East. We all have an obligation to stand up against hate, and to stand up for peace and for human rights, whenever we can. We were greatly concerned in relation to your recent statements about a law professor at Osgoode Hall Law School "attempted to justify and diminish the murder of Israeli children by Hamas" and was an anti-Semite. These are both grave accusations. Having reviewed her comments, we are left confused and concerned about your recent statements. We find all of this particularly alarming in light of the incredible backlash being faced by our communities right now, including in Ontario. In London, for example, the very city where the London Terror Attack happened, bathrooms are being vandalized with signs like "Kill All Muslims". Spreading this kind of information about a university professor, while many international observers have raised concerns, including the United Nations, about human rights abuses by the Israeli government, is concerning - and it seems to raise the spectre of political interference at a university. We are sure this is not your intention. We would like you to publicly clarify your remarks as soon as possible. Regards,
