Quebec City is home to many diverse people including many Palestinians, Christian and Muslim. As the civilian death toll rises to more than 10,000 Palestinians, over 4,000 of which have been children, we need Quebec City to be a voice for peace and justice.

Far too many families in Quebec City have lost loved ones in Gaza. There are far too many Canadians with connections in Quebec City who are still stuck in Gaza.

The Israeli government appears to be committed to an unrelenting siege and unlawful blockade of the Gaza strip. There is no end in sight. Their threats of violence are only escalating.

Cities across Canada, and mayors across Canada, in British Columbia, Toronto, Saskatoon, and everywhere in between are rising up, given how much their constituents have suffered, to urge the federal government to call for a ceasefire.

While it has taken longer than it should have, we need Quebec City today to pass a motion in calling for a ceasefire. I encourage all city councillors to support the passage of a motion for peace.
