Government Affairs and Public Policy Officer (Quebec)

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) is seeking a dynamic and proactive bilingual Government Affairs and Public Policy Officer to join our team in Quebec. This role is critical in supporting NCCM’s Government Affairs and Community Engagement departments by implementing effective advocacy strategies, coordinating grassroots mobilization efforts, and fostering relationships with government officials and community leaders. The ideal candidate will be passionate about driving NCCM’s public policy agenda, facilitating meaningful government engagement with Muslim communities, and contributing to the fight against Islamophobia.

Position Type: Full-time

Key Responsibilities: 

Government Relations: 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with MPs, MPPs/MLAs, and municipal councillors. 
  • Assist in implementing strategic initiatives to advance NCCM’s public policy priorities. 
  • Coordinate meetings, consultations, and events with government officials to address key policy issues. 
  • Represent NCCM at local government engagements and advocacy meetings. 

Community Engagement: 

  • Collaborate with NCCM’s Community Engagement team to mobilize grassroots advocacy campaigns. 
  • Coordinate community consultations and engagement activities on public policy initiatives. 
  • Serve as a local ambassador for NCCM, representing the organization in mosques, events, and other community spaces. 

Policy Support: 

  • Conduct research and analysis on policy files to inform advocacy efforts. 
  • Draft policy briefs, reports, and materials for use in government relations and public advocacy. 
  • Maintain accurate records of government relations activities using NCCM’s shared drive. 

Advocacy and Public Mobilization: 

  • Organize and support advocacy events, workshops, and educational sessions. 
  • Facilitate connections between government officials and Muslim communities to address concerns and build relationships. 

Qualifications: 

  • A degree in political science, public administration, law, or a related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • Demonstrated experience in government relations, public policy, or community advocacy. 
  • Strong understanding of the Canadian political landscape and legislative processes. 
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Proven ability to coordinate events and mobilize grassroots campaigns. 
  • Strong research and writing skills, with experience drafting policy documents or advocacy materials. 
  • Bilingualism (French and English) is required. 
  • Commitment to NCCM’s mission and values, with a passion for social justice and human rights.
