Amar Abdisamed is NCCM’s Assistant Advocacy Officer, and brings incredible experience to the team.
Amar recently completed a joint honours in Political Science and Communications at the University of Ottawa. During his time at the University of Ottawa, Amar played for the University of Ottawa Men’s Soccer Team in the 2018-2019 season. He also served with the University of Ottawa Muslim Student Association (UOMSA) for three consecutive years and just finished his recent term as UOMSA President. Aside from this, he also served as the Ottawa-Gatineau regional coordinator under the Canadian Muslim Vote this past federal election.
He also graduated from the Ottawa Islamic School as the class valedictorian.
Growing up Amar has had a strong passion for studying the Quran and various Islamic Sciences. He received his certificate for completion of the memorization of the Quran at the age of 17. Additionally, in 2015, he was the recipient of the Muslim Association of Canada’s Living Quran Scholarship award. Amar was also the winner of the Innovative Research Award under Natural Resources Canada and the winner of the Social Innovation Project award granted by the Faculty of Social Science and Research at the University of Ottawa. In 2019, he had the opportunity to attend the United Nations Youth Assembly in New York City as a student delegate.
