Support for Peace Building Motion

The ongoing violence that has afflicted Israel and Palestine in recent years has concerned so many in Canada for whom the Holy Land is of sacred importance.

The multiple violations of holy places in Jerusalem and the ongoing occupation of Palestinian territories have become of particular concern for many in Canada’s diverse and growing Muslim community.

This is why the recent motion to “conduct a study on the actions Canada should take to foster peace and respect for human rights and international law in the region” is so important.

Canada must prioritize its commitment to human rights in any international relationship, but particularly in areas where systematic abuses have been suffered by a marginalized population for some time.

It is time for us to play a more positive role to alleviate suffering in the region. The proposed motion is a useful first step toward understanding what that role looks like in detail.
