Open letter to the Prime Minister on RCMP uniform accommodation and official government terminology change

On August 31, 2016, the NCCM sent an open letter of appreciation to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to thank the Government of Canada for two recent positive announcements that have not gone unnoticed.

In its open letter, the NCCM expressed its gratitude for the recent announcement that the RCMP will be permitting women who choose to wear the hijab to serve in the force. The letter also welcomed the government-wide decision to adopt the term “Daesh” when referring to the terrorist organization referred to as the ‘Islamic State’ or ISIS/ISIL.

NCCM’s letter further encouraged the Government to review recommendations, contained in an earlier set of open letters sent by NCCM and others to the Public Safety Minister, regarding the anticipated public consultations on the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2015.
