(Ottawa – June 12, 2016) The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), a prominent civil liberties & advocacy organization, categorically condemns the mass shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Fifty people have so far been reported killed and 53 others were wounded in what is described as the most deadly mass shooting in the U.S.

“This horrific tragedy is heartbreaking. We extend our deepest condolences to the victims of this senseless act, and to their families and friends,” says NCCM’s Executive Director Ihsaan Gardee. “Hate hurts us all.  As Canadians, we stand united against violence and discrimination against any human being – regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation or any other factor.

“The NCCM has stood shoulder to shoulder with Canadians from various diverse communities, including with the LGBTQ community, to condemn hate and violence which targets anyone. We will continue to stand firmly with our fellow citizens in condemning all such hate and violence.”
