NCCM ANNOUNCES THE OPENING OF NEW OFFICE IN SASKATCHEWAN

(Ottawa – June 28, 2022)

As NCCM continues to grow, we are excited to formally announce the opening of our new office in Saskatchewan.

This is a major step for NCCM as we further realize our vision as a national organization that advocates across Canada, including our great prairie provinces.

A big part of this expansion into Saskatchewan has been made possible by the hiring of Daniel J. Kuhlen, NCCM’s new Senior Legal Counsel in the region.

“The expansion into Saskatchewan is a huge step for NCCM’s vision as a national organization that serves the interests of all Muslims in Canada regardless of region or geography,” says NCCM CEO Mustafa Farooq. “Daniel’s deep experience adds to our growing roster of amazing and dedicated legal professionals working around the clock to help our communities battle Islamophobia and racism.”

Before joining NCCM, Daniel engaged in private law practice. He subsequently worked as legal counsel with Canada’s Department of Justice, as well as with the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission. Daniel has appeared before numerous administrative tribunals and commissions, and before all levels of courts in Canada.

Daniel is a long-time member of the Islamic Association of Saskatchewan (Saskatoon) Inc., Chairing the Media, Communications, and Outreach Committee. He is also a past Board member of the Steep Hill Food Cooperative, the Saskatchewan Parkinson’s Foundation, and the Saskatoon Community Clinic, a non-profit healthcare cooperative.

Daniel’s extensive experience in the legal world and his deep connections to the communities of Saskatchewan makes him the ideal person to lead NCCM’s vision in the region, centred around the advocating of Muslim human rights and civil liberties. We have already made substantial progress in that respect by connecting with multiple municipalities in Saskatchewan to adopt various NCCM recommendations on anti-racism and anti-Islamophobia.

Our Saskatchewan office has also already been inundated with calls for help on a number of files. Our lawyers continue to deal with both these local issues as well as broader, national level cases, including at the Supreme Court.
