Send a Letter to Minister Joly Demanding that Canada Recognize the Jurisdiction of the ICC in Investigation of the Killing of Shireen Abu Aqla
On Wednesday, May 11, veteran journalist Shireen Abu Aqla was killed while wearing a press vest on assignment in the occupied West Bank. This attack on a journalist and their ability to report is a violation of international law.
The UN Special Rapporteur on Palestine has already described the incident as a ‘potential war crime’, echoing calls from hundreds of other politicians, organizations and community leaders demanding justice for Shireen Abu Aqla.
The death of Abu Aqla points to the immediate need for an impartial and thorough investigation by the ICC to seek accountability for this egregious crime.
We need you to do two things:
1. Send a letter calling on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Melanie Joly, to heed the call of the international community and the Canadian people by recognizing ICC jurisdiction over Palestine.
2. Share this letter writing campaign with your friends and family. We can no longer stay silent, we need to see action now.
