Take part in a national effort with talented individuals from around the country to develop and create practical solutions to prevent the proliferation of racist and hateful rhetoric online, and the spread of misinformation that contributes to its growth.
The NCCM Hackathon to End Online Hate is a coding and data analytics competition where teams of developers are challenged to provide innovative tech-based solutions to stop the spread of online hate.
The competition will be judged by a panel of prominent leaders within the North American Technology sector. Stay tuned for a big announcement with details of our exciting judging panel!
The Hackathon will have two rounds:
1 – Preliminary Round (virtual): An electronic case will be sent to the participants who will have 48-hours to research and submit their presentation slide-decks with a video recording (Deadline for submission: September 6th, 8 AM EST)
2 – Grand Finale (in-person/virtual*): A two-day event where the top-10 teams from Round 1 will have 3 days to develop and present their final submissions to a panel of renowned judges. The Grand Finale will be concluded with a virtual Evening Banquet. The top-3 teams announced will be awarded cash prizes (September 25th to September 27th).
The Hackathon will also include networking sessions where attendees can meet with executives from prominent organizations across the Tech sector to discuss mentoring and career opportunities. Stay tuned for more!
*Note: The in-person portion of the Hackathon is set to be held, COVID restrictions permitting, in 4 cities across Canada – Edmonton, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. Details will be announced soon as evolving COVID restrictions are assessed.
