Foreign Policy Campaign
The Canadian Muslim community’s concerns about Islamophobia are nothing short of global. Along with our non-stop work on Palestine, NCCM has also taken path-breaking advocacy steps toward advancing human rights in many other parts of the world where Muslim communities have suffered Islamophobia-driven persecution and violence. We know that Islamophobia abroad also affects us here at home in Canada.
China
Our human rights policy work on China pushes our leaders to act on the issue of state-sanctioned Islamophobia against the Uyghur people and systemic violations of Uyghur human rights. In Western China, over a million Uyghur Muslims and other ethnic and religious minorities have been interned in concentration camps since 2017.
We have pushed lawmakers to implement a robust regime that bars all products made from Uyghur slave labour from coming into Canada.
India
In India, Muslims, Sikhs, Christians, Dalits, and other religious minority groups have experienced severe forms of persecution, communal violence, and general repression at the hands of the current Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) led government.
The BJP is the political arm of an even older organization called the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a far-right paramilitary organization and self-described NGO that preaches the persecution of religious minorities in India. The RSS is the centre of a large network of entities that pushes for this terrible agenda not just in India, but across the world, including inside Canada.
These entities have a long history of violent Islamophobia against Muslims and persecution of other religious minorities in Canada, including instances of mass violence and terrorism.
We have worked to address this issue with lawmakers, including the presence of RSS affiliated groups in Canada that have grown and spread over decades.
These are just some examples of NCCM’s foreign policy files. Do not stop supporting us as we expand our fight against Islamophobia around the world.
