Last week, a bipartisan group of 33 MPs came together to urgently call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. As the civilian death toll rises to 5000 Palestinians, one third of which has been children, we need Canada to be a voice for peace and justice. The latest directive from the Government of Israel ordered 1.1 million people in Northern Gaza to somehow evacuate into an enclave further south, within a window of 24 hours. This is utterly inhumane, impractical, and a violation of international law. It is time for Canada to truly step up and oppose such a directive, to stand up for the human rights of Gazans and to work for a just and lasting peace.
