Send This Letter Thanking Federal Leaders for Standing Against White Supremacy
Join us in sending this letter to Prime Minister Trudeau and Leader of Canada’s NDP, Jagmeet Singh thanking them for their recent statements confronting white supremacist and neo-Nazi organizations. Mr. Singh formally endorsed NCCM’s draft national action plan earlier in November.
Our communities are still reeling from the incident that took place this September 12, 2020. On that day, a member of the Canadian community, Mohamed-Aslim Zafis, was ruthlessly killed in front of the IMO Mosque in Toronto by an individual with apparent links to a neo-Nazi group. This attack did not happen in isolation. This attack is one in a long series of a chain of horrifying attacks on racialized communities in Canada. Faith-based communities, as well as racialized communities, have faced attacks on our homes, our places of worship, our children, and our congregants at the hands of white supremacist organizations. Organizations like these that commit those crimes have been a direct threat to Black, indigenous, Jewish, Muslim, Sikh and other communities.
We are thankful for the Prime Minister’s commitment to address this issue, and Mr. Singh’s formal endorsement of the plan, and are now looking forward to see groups that threaten our communities disbanded.
We are looking forward to seeing more action as we move forward, and to go from commitment to action.
